Samsung has just launched its new Micro RGB TV R95H, which brings a major technological leap with individually lit blue LEDs built directly into the panel. Previously, Samsung relied on a workaround: using a blue LED backlight together with a panel made of red, green, and yellow LEDs. While functional, that method wasn’t particularly precise.

Now, by combining blue LEDs alongside red and green ones in the same unit, the R95H delivers a noticeably broader color range with impressive precision. Though it’s related to its QLED sibling, the QN90F, the Micro RGB panel provides contrast and detail much closer to the S95H OLED. Millions of specially designed micro lenses incorporate blue, red, and green LEDs, producing color accuracy that aims to surpass OLED’s long-standing reputation for the best color reproduction.
Why blue matters so much
The researchers behind the blue LED actually earned a Nobel Prize—it’s a genuinely big deal. For years, blue LEDs were the hardest and most costly to produce, yet they were essential for making white LED lighting possible. A white LED is really just a blue LED coated with a chemical compound that fluoreszes when powered.

Once the technology matured, it was a game-changer for both displays and energy use. An LED bulb can run for tens of thousands of hours and consumes roughly 90% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. That efficiency enabled displays to pack more capability into compact designs while using far less power, improving battery life for portable devices and cutting electricity consumption across wired electronics.

You should buy the Samsung R95H if…
1. You want the latest TV tech
The R95H introduces cutting-edge micro LED technology, embedding red, green, and blue LEDs within the panel to cover up to 100% of the BT.2020 color space. Each micro LED has a specialized focusing lens to minimize color bleed, resulting in sharper, cleaner images.

The result is color fidelity and picture quality rivaling OLED displays, but without worrying about permanent burn-in. The screen uses a matte coating to cut down on reflections, and everything is driven by the new Micro RGB AI Engine Pro chip, which handles upscaling more effectively, processes scenes faster, and integrates AI-powered features seamlessly.
2. You want a smoother picture
With a native refresh rate of 165Hz, the R95H delivers noticeably smoother motion for live sports, action-packed movies, and gaming. Gamers will also appreciate AMD FreeSync Premium Pro VRR support, which eliminates screen tearing and can push the refresh rate up to 240Hz for ultra-fluid gameplay whether you’re online or offline.
3. You want more AI integration
As a newer Samsung TV, the R95H comes with built-in Samsung Vision AI support. This integrated assistant offers personalized search and content recommendations, access to Microsoft Copilot, a generative wallpaper feature, and improved picture-and-sound presets. Dedicated AI Soccer Mode automatically detects when you’re viewing a football match and adjusts picture and sound settings to highlight commentary and fine on-screen details.
You should buy the Samsung QN90F if…
1. You’re sticking to a budget
Samsung’s QLED TVs are based on a more mature, well-established technology, giving the company years to fine-tune the balance between production costs and retail pricing. Since QLED panels are more affordable to produce, a Samsung QLED TV delivers solid picture performance across live news, sports, console gaming, and streaming without breaking the bank.
2. You don’t need the bleeding edge of tech
The QN90F is one generation older than the S95H and R95H, but it still has plenty to offer. You’ll get Samsung’s signature QLED picture quality, solid audio, and a wide array of smart features.

It supports AirPlay and, after a simple update, Google Cast for wirelessly sharing content from your phone. You can even plug your phone in and use it as a microphone for karaoke nights. And with years of firmware and security patches guaranteed, your TV stays current and your personal data stays protected.
3. You want more screen sizes
Available in sizes from 43 inches all the way up to a massive 115-inch cinema-sized display, the QN90F gives you the most variety, making it easier to find the ideal fit for any room. This is especially useful if you’re after a smaller, high-quality secondary TV for a bedroom, home office, or kids’ room. Just be aware that prices climb quickly at the larger sizes—the 115-inch QN90F retails for around $25,000.
You should buy the Samsung S95H if…
1. You prioritize perfect blacks and infinite contrast
OLED technology excels where other display types fall short: producing true black pixels by turning off individual LEDs. This gives the S95H an essentially infinite contrast ratio, meaning bright highlights and deep shadows coexist naturally on the same image. For viewers who watch a lot of movies or dimly lit content, this makes a noticeable difference in immersive quality.
2. You want a thinner, more stylish design
Without the need for a separate backlight layer, the S95H can be built much slimmer than both the R95H and the QN90F. The result is a sleek, modern profile that blends seamlessly into contemporary living spaces. Its minimal footprint on a wall or stand makes it an attractive centerpiece for any room.
3. You want wide viewing angles with consistent color
One of OLED’s standout strengths is how well the picture holds up at off-center viewing angles. Unlike LED-based displays, which can look washed out or shift in color when viewed from the side, the S95H maintains consistent brightness and color accuracy from virtually any position in the room. This makes it an excellent choice for larger households or open-plan living areas where people are watching from different spots.
1. You want the sharpest contrast
An OLED TV uses individually lit LEDs that can be powered on and off independently to create deep blacks and very bright whites. This means that you’ll get some of the sharpest contrast available outside of specialized studio equipment.

Since each LED can be powered off without affecting the rest of the panel, you’re much less likely to get a halo effect where light bleeds into darker areas of the screen, potentially erasing finer details.
2. You want a Pantone-validated screen
The Samsung S95H has dual Pantone validation, which means it has undergone rigorous testing to ensure it meets Pantone standards for over 2,000 colors in its Formula Guide and over 130 in the SkinTone Guide. When paired with the OLED panel’s reputation for color accuracy, this means you’ll get some of the most true-to-life images possible without spending tens of thousands on precision-calibrated screens meant for professional filmmaking or lab testing.
3. You want Nvidia G-Sync support
Samsung smart TVs have often supported AMD FreeSync VRR, which works with AMD processors with integrated graphics as well as discrete graphics cards. FreeSync helps the TV (or monitor) match its refresh rate to the output from your PC or console for smoother video playback.
And now, with the release of the S95H OLED, Samsung is offering support for Nvidia G-Sync VRR: great news for content creators and streamers looking for a high-end screen to add to a multi-monitor setup for video production.
Writer’s choice
While the Micro RGB screen still has a lot to prove, from what I’ve seen so far, it managed to pull off the impossible: outshine the OLED. With individually lit LEDs rather than a universal backlight, you get the same deep black and bright white contrast as an OLED TV. And with the introduction of blue LEDs, the Samsung R95H is able to produce a wider range of colors — up to 100% of the BT.2020 color spectrum.
Since it doesn’t rely on a delicate organic substrate to create color and detail, you don’t have to worry about accidentally ruining your very expensive TV with burn-in, making it perfect for content creators who need to display static elements for extended periods while editing or streaming.
The only downside is that, like any new technology, a Micro RGB TV is going to come with a very steep price, starting at $3,200 for the 65-inch and topping out at $6,500 for the 85-inch.
