K&N Engineering moves security earlier in the development cycle to boost cloud protection Organization: K&N EngineeringProject: Code to Cloud Security TransformationSecurity leader: Iqbal Rana, CIO K&N Engineering, a manufacturing firm, runs its own direct-to-consumer online store on AWS. CIO Iqbal Rana, who also leads security efforts, has long adhered to cloud security best practices, using built-in cloud security features and controls managed by his team to make sure “everything was properly configured.” However, a cyber insurance audit conducted a couple of years back revealed a security flaw in the software deployment tool used by his IT staff. This discovery pushed…
The polar bear clip has racked up millions of views. Paired with a melancholic piano track that’s taken over TikTok, it captures a solitary bear paddling through widening gaps between drifting ice sheets. The comment section brims with young people expressing sorrow, fury, and a sense of powerlessness.Next to my laptop sits the newest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report. Same topic, entirely different world. The careful, restrained language of climate research couldn’t be further from the intense feelings stirred by that TikTok. Each holds a piece of truth, yet they operate on completely different wavelengths of human comprehension.Gen…
Credit: Creative Images Lab/GettyOne evening, my partner Boyan Li was at the kitchen table, reviewing student work for a coding class he taught during his PhD at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. The task asked students to apply a computational-biology algorithm to a specific dataset. Each submission needed more than a quick glance. He executed the code, reviewed the results, and followed the logic step by step. Some answers were obviously right; others were clearly incorrect. But many landed in a gray area: partially correct, yet inconsistent in their approach or logic. These were the trickiest to judge and…
Staff members at the Department of Agriculture have filed a lawsuit against Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins regarding a series of emails she distributed to employees. They contend that the messages, which they describe as “increasingly proselytizing,” overstepped legal boundaries and infringed upon First Amendment protections. The legal action, submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, was prompted by an Easter email Rollins sent to USDA personnel in April. The plaintiffs characterized the message as “unconstitutionally coercive,” arguing it attempted “to impose her brand of Christianity on the agency’s 100,000 employees.” “We work for the federal…
By Marc Kavinsky, Lead Editor at IoT Business News.Telit Cinterion is now incorporating Swift Navigation’s Skylark precise positioning service alongside its dual-frequency GNSS modules and NExT cellular connectivity. This combined solution targets IoT deployments that require sub-meter accuracy without the expense and complexity of setting up RTK infrastructure.Accurate positioning is now a core requirement in many IoT systems, but achieving it involves more than just adding a GNSS receiver. Developers must coordinate hardware, correction data, connectivity, coverage, and support responsibilities—all while managing power and data usage within the constraints of field devices.Telit Cinterion and Swift Navigation are tackling this integration…
Image courtesy of ADI Robots are breaking free from their traditional boundaries. No longer limited to isolated factory workstations or cordoned-off zones, autonomous mobile robots now run nonstop in warehouses and hospitals. Drones are covering greater distances with more independence. Humanoid robots are starting to share spaces with people, moving through common areas and reacting to unpredictable human actions on the fly. This latest wave of machines shares a defining trait: their mobility systems are now driven by perception, packed with computing power, and built with safety at the core. The tough part is no longer about crafting one sensor…
Training large language models from scratch is so costly that even small efficiency gains can lead to significant savings in both time and expense. Nous Research has introduced Token Superposition Training (TST), a technique that dramatically cuts pre-training wall-clock time without altering the model architecture, optimizer, tokenizer, parallelism strategy, or training data. At the 10B-A1B mixture-of-experts scale, TST achieves a lower final training loss than a matched-FLOPs baseline while using only 4,768 B200-GPU-hours compared to the baseline’s 12,311 — roughly a 2.5× reduction in total pre-training time. The Problem TST Addresses Modern LLM pre-training is overwhelmingly data-hungry. Current training practices…

The Hacker NewsMay 13, 2026Cloud Security / Automation Security teams today have more insight into their environments than ever before, yet they struggle more than ever to confirm that their fixes remain effective over time. According to Mandiant’s M-Trends 2026 report, the average time to exploit a vulnerability is now estimated at negative seven days. Meanwhile, the Verizon 2025 DBIR reports that the median time to fix edge device vulnerabilities stands at 32 days. These figures have rightly pushed the industry to focus on better prioritization and faster patching. That guidance is essential. But it’s only part of the picture.…
This guide walks you through building a realistic Zero-Trust network simulation. We’ll model a micro-segmented environment using a directed graph and ensure every request undergoes continuous verification. We create a dynamic policy engine that combines ABAC-style permissions with device posture checks, MFA, path reachability, zone sensitivity, and real-time risk signals such as anomaly detection and volume-based indicators. Finally, we deploy this model via a Flask API and simulate mixed traffic, including insider lateral movement and data exfiltration attempts, to demonstrate how trust scoring, adaptive controls, and automated quarantines block malicious flows in real time.
