General Matrix Multiplication (GEMM) forms a cornerstone of modern scientific computing, yet achieving peak performance on multi-core systems remains a significant challenge. Yufan Xia, Marco De La Pierre, and Amanda S. Barnard, from the Australian National University, alongside Giuseppe Maria Junior Barca, tackled this problem by developing a machine learning approach to runtime optimisation. Their research introduces a proof-of-concept Architecture and Data-Structure Aware Linear Algebra (ADSALA) library, which dynamically selects the optimal number of threads for GEMM tasks. This innovative method, tested on both Intel Cascade Lake and Zen 3 high-performance computing nodes, demonstrates a substantial 25 to 40 per…
The rush to deploy sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) and run inference at the edge is driving more enterprises to deploy Kubernetes on-premise, according to Dan Ciruli, vice-president and general manager of cloud native at Nutanix. Speaking to Computer Weekly on a recent visit to Singapore, Ciruli noted that while Kubernetes has been around for over a decade, the requirements of modern AI workloads are changing how and where the container orchestration platform is deployed. While many organisations previously relied on managed Kubernetes services, such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service or Google Kubernetes Engine, the need to keep sensitive data…
Recently, Indian health platform Tata 1mg partnered with payroll fintech OneBanc to integrate AI-driven corporate healthcare directly into payroll systems, embedding wellness analytics into routine employment infrastructure rather than treating mental-health support as a separate benefit. Similar deployments are emerging across sectors. While no public data reliably quantify how many workers use AI wellness tools, market growth and vendor proliferation suggest these systems already reach millions of workers. The market for chatbot-based mental-health apps alone is estimated at $2.1 billion in 2025, projected to grow to $7.5 billion by 2034.Observers report that AI can potentially enhance workplace wellness by analyzing patterns…

Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) increasingly relies on machine learning, yet progress is hampered by limited training data and a lack of standardised evaluation methods. Anush Lakshman S, Adam Haroon, and Beiwen Li, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University, address this challenge by presenting the first open-source, photorealistic synthetic dataset for FPP. The dataset comprises 15,600 fringe images and 300 corresponding depth reconstructions, generated using Isaac Sim and representing 50 different objects. This research significantly advances the field by benchmarking four distinct neural network architectures , UNet, Hformer, ResUNet, and Pix2Pix , and revealing fundamental limitations in…
Just a few years ago, the cloud was touted as the “magic pill” for any cyber threat or performance issue. Many were lured by the “always-on” dream, trading granular control for the convenience of managed services. In recent years, many of us have learned (often the hard way) that public cloud service providers are not immune to attacks and SaaS downtime, hiding behind the Shared Responsibility cushion. To stay operational, competitive, and resilient in today’s threat landscape, teams must move beyond the dependency on SaaS providers and understand what cyber resilience really means. The Myth of DevOps SaaS Resilience In…
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a security flaw that leverages indirect prompt injection targeting Google Gemini as a way to bypass authorization guardrails and use Google Calendar as a data extraction mechanism. The vulnerability, Miggo Security’s Head of Research, Liad Eliyahu, said, made it possible to circumvent Google Calendar’s privacy controls by hiding a dormant malicious payload within a standard calendar invite. “This bypass enabled unauthorized access to private meeting data and the creation of deceptive calendar events without any direct user interaction,” Eliyahu said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The starting point of the attack…

In the future, Elon Musk sees humans as metaphorical vegetable farmers. The Tesla CEO said at the recent U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington that in the next 10 to 20 years, work will be optional, likening the decision to have a job to the more laborious upkeep of a vegetable garden. “My prediction is that work will be optional. It’ll be like playing sports or a video game or something like that,” Musk said. “If you want to work, [it’s] the same way you can go to the store and just buy some vegetables, or you can grow vegetables in…
