Bernard “Bernie” Widrow, a Stanford electrical engineering professor and foundational figure in adaptive signal processing and neural networks, died on September 30, 2025, at age 95. He did incredible things with neural networks in the mid-20th century. He was more deserving of the Nobel Prize in pioneering artificial intelligence than either of the 2024 recipients. Working with his first doctoral student, Marcian “Ted” Hoff, Widrow developed the Least Mean Squares (LMS) algorithm (the Widrow-Hoff algorithm) that allowed systems to adapt by correcting errors incrementally. This breakthrough became essential to high-speed communications, mobile phones, modems, and early internet technologies. His achievements earned…

That’s the bigger picture behind Ningbo Titan Industrial Automation Co., Ltd. (NTA)’s latest move. The Chinese specialist has just released a new breed of energy-efficient pneumatic valves built to trim both compressed-air and electricity use without slowing down the fast-paced response that…
San Diego-based Vanna Jimenez became a beauty influencer by accident. A year ago, she began posting her morning routines on TikTok and Instagram out of her tiny antique bathroom. While she initially focused on her love of 1960s fashion, her skincare and makeup – tossed artfully across a silver tray piled with her coffee, jewellery, toothpaste, books and accessories – quickly gained followers and the attention of beauty brands. Chanel Beauty enthusiastically commented on one of her posts and sent her products. Others like Haus Labs and Shark followed suit, in hopes that their offers would wind up in the…
Right before the World Economic Forum 2026 (WEF), which brings together, in smallville Davos (Switzerland), the most important world leaders and CEOs, Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, takes a look at the new year and at what it could bring for the Web3 space. Here are his thoughts. Is Bitcoin still “the” thing in Web3? Altcoins could eclipse Bitcoin. Bitcoin has cemented its status as “digital gold”; however, it is the broader altcoin market that represents global innovation and utility. Many people who enter crypto do so through tokens that offer some kind of utility, whether it be in DeFi, gaming tokens, NFTs, etc. This would be somewhat analogous to the current balance of the stock market…

In our digital economy, businesses lean hard on cloud-based workflows to drive everything from customer onboarding to manufacturing orchestration and regulatory reporting. But as organizations accelerate into the cloud, the traditional detect and respond model of security is no longer sufficient. The imperative has shifted. You must adopt a prevention-first strategy to protect sensitive cloud workflows, or you will find yourself reacting to incidents instead of avoiding them altogether. Cloud workflows are the backbone of modern operations. These pipelines orchestrate data, code, access and automation across multiple services. That makes them extremely attractive targets because once an attacker compromises one…
The Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed healthcare. Hospitals and clinics rely on a wide range of connected devices on a daily basis, from patient monitors and wearable sensors to imaging systems and smart diagnostic equipment. However, as the industry continues to innovate, growing cybersecurity challenges also arise. Niall McConachie, regional director (UK & Ireland) at Yubico, explores the security impacts of an increasingly connected technological ecosystem and the risks of legacy authentication methods in keeping businesses secure from increasingly sophisticated threats like AI-driven phishing. Healthcare institutions use countless connected devices. However, many of these devices are improperly secured, relying…
