Since early chatbots were first conceived more than 50 years go, they have become increasingly sophisticated – in large part, thanks to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. They also seem to be everywhere: on desktops, mobile apps and embedded into everyday programs, meaning you can interact with them at any time. Now, new research I coauthored with my colleagues at the Digital Media Research Centre shows what happens when you interact with these chatbots about dangerous conspiracy theories. Many won’t shut the conversation down. In fact, some will even encourage it. The research, which is available as a…
Artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t going anywhere.Identifying stocks that you can buy and hold for the next decade is a great goal for every investor. These low-maintenance stocks can deliver excellent returns and hardly require any attention. However, they aren’t easy to identify because they require you to understand what will happen over the next 10 years. If you rewind the clock a decade, many events, like the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency, and the COVID-19 pandemic, were difficult or impossible to predict. So, there is a bit of luck involved. However, I think these three are easily stocks that…
OSHKOSH (NBC 26) — Oshkosh North High School hosted the area’s first LEGO League Regional Tournament, bringing together more than 100 young students from across Wisconsin to showcase their robotics skills and creativity.Watch the broadcast story here: Oshkosh North hosts LEGO League Regional Tournament with Wisconsin students competing The tournament featured months of research, teamwork and problem-solving as students put their robots and ideas to the test in competitive challenges.”Centers around building a robot for a game each year… We compete globally so we’ve competed against teams from Israel, China,” said Jacob Branson, a sophomore from Oshkosh who serves as…
The Fool’s TakeSocial media giant Meta Platforms has been using artificial intelligence technology to carve out greater efficiencies and increase its competitive advantage. It’s spending so much on AI, though, that some investors balked at its third-quarter earnings report, sending the stock down. But its results were not bad at all. Revenue rose 26% year over year to $51.2 billion. Meta’s base of daily active users on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads rose 8% to 3.54 billion people. However, operating expenses climbed 32% to $30.7 billion. Meta has spent heavily on employees with AI skills and on building out AI…
In the high-stakes arena of artificial intelligence, a seismic partnership has emerged that could redefine the landscape of cloud computing and AI development. Anthropic, the San Francisco-based startup behind the Claude AI model, has inked a deal committing $30 billion to Microsoft Azure’s cloud infrastructure, powered by Nvidia’s cutting-edge chips. In return, Microsoft and Nvidia are pouring a combined $15 billion into Anthropic, catapulting its valuation to an eye-watering $350 billion. This tripartite alliance, announced amid a frenzy of AI investments, underscores the intensifying race to dominate generative AI technologies. The deal’s mechanics are intricate, blending long-term commitments with strategic…
Space travel and cyber warfare may have once been confined to novels and movie screens, but for state leaders, those concepts are now less science fiction and more a growing industry. Texas is investing in commercial space flight and cybersecurity — and San Antonio is trying to increase local involvement and opportunity in both sectors. The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce announced plans to host a Texas Space Summit in 2026, bringing together the Texas Space Commission and companies from around the state to discuss the space industry. Later that day, space commission and state officials gathered at the…
My son and I went to see the movie Tron: Ares, this past week. I was excited to see this 2025 sequel, because the original Tron movie from 1982 is a classic and one of my ’80s sci-fi technology favorites along with the movie War Games.Without ruining the plot for readers, the 2025 Tron, the latest installment in the franchise, flips the script on the 1982 version. Instead of a human entering into a computer and facing various tests and adventures, a computer “AI agent” comes to life and enters our real world. There are plenty of interesting twists and…
It’s not just you — internet outages severe enough to disrupt everyday services for many people have become more frequent and wide-ranging, experts say. When internet services company Cloudflare crashed Tuesday — prompting significant, hourslong disruptions at companies ranging from X to OpenAI to Discord — it was the third major internet outage in the space of about a month. While there’s plenty of finger-pointing to go around, two things are clear: Popular consumer businesses increasingly rely on a handful of giant companies that run things more cheaply in the cloud, and when one of those companies isn’t extraordinarily careful, an obscure…
A robotic hand rests on a plain tabletop, its pale synthetic skin pulled taut over the hidden math of a network of fibers that appear to pulsate like veins under tension. The fingers curl over to form a grip that feels almost too fluid, almost like a human hand. This is Clone Robotics’ most recent demonstration of their Neural Joint V2 Controller, a system that transforms a complex jumble of artificial muscles into something that responds well and isn’t prone to wobbling. Clone Robotics was founded in 2021 with a single goal in mind: to create androids that move like…
California-based Figure AI announced on Wednesday that it is officially retiring its Figure 02 (F.02) humanoid robots. The decision comes after an 11-month deployment at BMW Manufacturing’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. The pilot project was part of a collaboration to test humanoid robots on a real assembly line. The company highlighted that the F.02 units helped produce more than 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles and load over 90,000 sheet-metal parts during their deployment. Figure CEO Brett Adcock shared visuals of the robots covered in scratches, scuffs, and grime, signaling the realities of working in an industrial environment. Scratches as proof of…
