Bitget, the world’s leading Universal Exchange (UEX), has published its Web3 Next-Gen Talent Intelligence Report, revealing that hiring obstacles—rather than a shortage of skilled individuals—represent one of the sector’s most significant workforce issues.
Carried out as part of Bitget’s Blockchain4Youth (B4Y) program, the research gathered insights from aspiring and early-career professionals across various regions. It found that although Web3 continues to draw highly qualified individuals, many candidates still struggle to land their first position.
Over 54% of those surveyed pointed to experience requirements for entry-level roles as the primary barrier to breaking into the industry, while 52% noted that their academic background offered theoretical understanding but fell short in delivering hands-on, job-ready competencies. The results indicate that even as blockchain education spreads worldwide, employment opportunities have not expanded at the same rate, leading to a widening gap between academic preparation and actual workforce entry. The report emphasizes that the industry is dealing with a talent access problem rather than a talent deficit, with numerous qualified individuals unable to obtain the practical experience necessary to get started.
The report also underscores the rising significance of emerging markets in defining the future Web3 workforce. Nigeria, Indonesia, and China made up close to half of all survey participants, illustrating how blockchain education and career aspirations are growing beyond established tech centers. Nearly 46% of respondents were aged 23 to 30, and more than 58% held Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD qualifications.
“The industry has done well in drawing talent from around the world. The next challenge is turning that talent into actual employment. The data shows there is a substantial group of driven and well-educated candidates, but many find it difficult to make their initial move into the sector. Addressing this gap will be essential for the industry’s next stage of expansion,” said Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget.
The report notes that career interests are shifting in line with industry needs. The intersection of AI and blockchain emerged as the most desirable career direction, chosen by 61% of respondents. Despite strong passion for the field, participants repeatedly cited real-world industry experience as a missing element in their professional growth, with 62% identifying mentorship from seasoned professionals as the form of support most likely to speed up their career progress.
The report builds on the ongoing growth of Blockchain4Youth, Bitget’s worldwide program dedicated to blockchain education and workforce preparation. The insights highlight the value of structured learning paths that blend technical training with real industry exposure—an approach embodied in the Blockchain4Youth Learning Hub curriculum, which covers blockchain basics, DeFi education, industry perspectives, and emerging technology subjects.
The Blockchain4Youth Learning Hub recently exceeded 10,000 registered learners globally. Those who complete the program earn a certificate that grants them priority consideration for selected roles within Bitget and the Blockchain4Youth Talent Alliance, helping bridge the gap between education and tangible career opportunities. Through efforts such as Boxed for Opportunity, educational partnerships, career-oriented programs, and the Blockchain4Youth Talent Alliance, Blockchain4Youth continues to link learning, mentorship, and professional development pathways for up-and-coming Web3 talent.
The report concluded that deeper collaboration among educational institutions, employers, learning platforms, and industry stakeholders will be essential to close the divide between education and employment and to fuel the next phase of Web3 workforce development.
