Qualinx, a European semiconductor firm specializing in ultra-low-power connectivity solutions for edge devices, has revealed that its QLX3Gx Series GNSS receiver now fully supports Galileo OSNMA (Open Service Navigation Message Authentication). Created with backing from EUSPA, the European Union’s space program agency, this milestone makes the QLX3Gx the first ultra-low-power GNSS receiver to offer built-in OSNMA capability as a standard feature across its complete product lineup. The QLX3Gx chip is presently accessible for sampling, with large-scale manufacturing scheduled for the latter half of 2026.
Previously, receivers equipped with OSNMA functionality were limited to premium, expensive, and power-demanding applications, meaning the overwhelming majority of the GNSS market — including wearable devices, IoT sensors, asset tracking systems, drones, and other battery-powered gadgets — lacked access to authenticated positioning. These are exactly the segments where location spoofing, signal forgery, and manipulation are becoming increasingly widespread and impactful. Qualinx has woven OSNMA support into the QLX3Gx’s hardware design from the start, achieving a fully streamlined architecture with no compromises in power efficiency, pricing, or functionality.

The effort to bring OSNMA support to the QLX3Gx was undertaken in tight coordination with EUSPA. The collaboration underscores a mutual dedication to extending Galileo’s advanced security features to the broadest possible array of use cases and industries. EUSPA views OSNMA as a key priority for bolstering defenses against spoofing and signal tampering, and the QLX3Gx marks meaningful progress toward realizing that ambition for mainstream consumer devices. The QLX3Gx delivers an end-to-end secure solution — from design through manufacturing via GlobalFoundries’ secure supply chain — and the addition of OSNMA extends that protection into real-world end-user applications.

Data from the EU Space Market Report 2026 indicates that worldwide GNSS revenues are forecast to climb from €300 billion in 2024 to €580 billion by 2034, with mass-market devices projected to account for the highest shipment volumes and the strongest growth trajectory. Leveraging Qualinx’s Digital Radio Frequency (DRF) technology, the QLX3Gx achieves power consumption up to 10× lower than traditional GNSS solutions. By incorporating OSNMA directly into the hardware, the chip removes the computational burden usually tied to authentication, guaranteeing that security imposes no significant drain on the power budget of even the most resource-limited device.
The advantages go well beyond security. By making authenticated positioning widely available across IoT networks, wearables, and asset tracking at scale, the QLX3Gx contributes to a more resilient and tamper-proof positioning infrastructure, thereby mitigating the financial and operational damage caused by spoofing in sectors that previously had no practical countermeasures. The chip’s adaptable digital RF architecture also allows for feature updates over time without requiring new hardware, which extends product lifespans, reduces electronic waste, and lowers total energy usage. The outcome is a platform that makes connected devices not only safer but also more environmentally sustainable.
The QLX3Gx Series is currently open for sampling, with volume production slated for the second half of 2026.
